In-Cabin Pet Policy

If your dog, cat or small household bird meets the requirements listed in Spirit Airlines pet policy to travel in-cabin, you will need an approved airline pet carrier.

The maximum size carrier that can be carried on a Spirit flight is 18"L x 14"W x 9"H (45.72cm x 35.56 cm x 22.86cm). If you are traveling with a soft-sided carrier, the height should be measured when compressed. There must be sufficient room for your pet to stand up and turn around in the carrier. It must have a waterproof bottom and must have adequate ventilation.

Spirit pet policy will allow for 2 pets per carrier as long as there is sufficient room and one pet carrier per paying adult passenger. Two very small dogs or cats can travel in the same carrier as long as they are of the same species.

Pets Allowed:

Small dogs, cats and household birds

Age

Puppies and kittens must be at least 8 weeks of age and fully weaned.

Route Restrictions:

Pets are not permitted to travel on international flights unless they are service animals.

Reservations

You should notify Spirit Airlines that you are traveling with a pet, but it is not required.

Forms Required:

A health certificate is not required for pets flying on Spirit Airines on domestic flights.

Service and Emotional Support Animals

Service and emotional support animals are permitted to fly in the cabin on Spirit Airlines flights.

Animals must behave around other passengers, not emit a foul smell or show any aggressive tendancies. Owners of service animals may be asked what service they provide to their owner.

Owners of emotional support animals are required to have 3 forms completed (Mental Health Professional Form, Veterinary Health Form and Passenger Liability Form) and filed electronically a minimum of 48 hours before departure.

The following animals will not be accepted as emotional support or service animals: snakes, other reptiles, rodents, ferrets, sugar gliders or spiders.
