Pet-Friendly Cape Cod

Cape Cod Beach

There is no other place to visit with your pet like Cape Cod. Its history is grounded in the marine industry, and scenic harbors and lighthouses abound. The smell of the sea permiates through the air. Gift and country stores are always around the bend on Route 6A which runs the length of the bay side of the Cape to Provincetown. This is a must-do while visiting Cape Cod.

Beachin' It

Aside from the natural beauty of the Cape, there is plenty to do. Cape Cod's beaches are one of its best resources. With over 560 miles of coastline, there is something for everyone. Those on the northwest side of the Cape are endless at low tide providing lots of fun for families. Those beaches on the southern side are for the teens with rougher seas and surfing. Pets are allowed on many beaches on Cape Cod during the off season or before 9:00AM and after 6:00PM. Be sure and check before packing your dog in the car with your picnic.

Whatever Floats Your Boat

Not into the sand and sun? There are plenty of walking trails, kayaking, biking trails, theatre productions, golf, and shopping. Wander through numerous museums, both maritime and historic, many former sea captains' homes, historic lighthouses and exhibits of Native American artifacts. How about whale watching or winery touring, or just an old fashioned clam bake?

About town

Cape Cod is made up of 15 towns, with each town having an assortment of villages. The Upper Cape includes Falmouth, Bourne, Sandwich and Mashpee. Barnstable, Yarmouth and Dennis are considered Mid-Cape, Brewster, Harwich, and Chatham comprise the Lower Cape area, and the Outer Cape includes the towns of Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. Each town has its own flavor and charm. Although there are several larger hotels most accommodations are small inns and bed and breakfasts where you and your pet will be welcome. While at the beach don't forget famous Cape Cod ice cream.

Whether the weather

Although the weather can be variable during the summer months and pretty cold during the winter, you will not be unhappy that you experienced Cape Cod. It is a place where commercialism is not welcome and a laid-back lifestyle is obviously the way things are done.
