European Countries
The following countries are EU Member States and under the Pet Travel Scheme which is EU legislation governing the movement of live animals. Click on the country name to review the pet import requirements of that country.
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
Northern Ireland is not an EU Member State but is subject to EU legislation regarding the import of live animals.
European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries
These countries have a close relationship with the European Union and adopt many of their regulations regarding pet import. Pet Passports from these countries are accepted in the EU. Note that Iceland has its own set of strict pet import requirements.
Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway
Switzerland is neither an EU nor EEA member; however, it has adopted much of EU legislation regarding the import of pet dogs, cats and ferrets.
Non-EU Countries whose government-issued pet passports are recognized by the EU
Andorra, Azores and Madeira, Canary Islands, French Guiana, Gibraltar, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, Guadeloupe, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Martinique, Monaco, Norway, Reunion, San Marino, Switzerland and Vatican City.
