When transporting a pet by a commercial airline, it is extremely important to understand their pet policy. These policies vary between airlines. Some allow small pets to fly in the cabin and others don’t. It is important to know the answers to all your questions before making your decision to fly your pet on any commercial airline. Does Frontier allow pets on my route? How much does it cost to fly a dog or cat on v? What documents will I need? What are the carrier requirements for Frontier? Note: It is important to mention that the pet policy of the airline that operates your pet’s route will preside over the policy of the airline that owns the route. This is important to note because if the operating airline changes during your trip, then you will likely need to claim and recheck your pet on the next airline. This will cause you to clear customs and enter the layover country. You will need time and extra documentation to accommodate this process during the layover unless flying domestically.

Classes of service offered to pets by commercial airlines

  • In-Cabin: Pets traveling in the cabin must fly with an adult passenger and travel in an airline compliant
    carrier stowed under the seat.
  • Checked Baggage: Pets traveling with a passenger that are not permitted in the cabin due to size or breed can be transported as checked baggage in the cargo hold. Frontier Airlines does not offer this class of service for pets.
  • Air Cargo: Unaccompanied, very large pets or pets flying to countries that require that pets enter under air cargo will travel as manifest cargo in the hold. Frontier Airlines does not offer this class of service for pets.

Where is Frontier Airlines based?

Frontier Airlines is based out of Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado. Many layovers within Frontier Airline’s network will occur in this airport.

What countries does Frontier Airlines fly pets to?

Frontier Airlines is a pet-friendly airline that will fly other domestic pets other than dogs and cats in the cabin on domestic flights within the United States. Frontier Airlines only offers service for small pets flying in the cabin. They do not offer checked baggage or air cargo services for live animals.

If your dog or cat meets the requirements listed in Frontier Airline’s pet policy to travel in-cabin, it will need an airline-compliant pet carrier unless you are flying with a service dog who is trained to assist you in a task required for a physical or medical disability.

Pets flown on Frontier Airlines in the cabin

Domesticated dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or small household birds may be carried on flights within the United States. Only dogs and cats are accepted on international flights.

Age requirements

Minimum age of transport in the cabin is eight weeks of age.

Pet carrier requirements

The recommended size for your pet’s carrier is 18″L x 14″W x 8″H for hard-sided carriers. Soft-sided carriers may measure up to 18″L x 14″W x 11″H. Pets must remain in the carrier at all times during flight.

Your pet’s carrier must:

  • Be large enough for your pet to stand up and turn around comfortably
  • Be able to accommodate your entire pet. No part of your pet can extend out of the carrier
  • Be able to fit under the seat in front of you
  • Have a waterproof bottom and absorbent pet pad
  • Have secure fasteners (heavy duty zippers are recommended)
  • Have adequate ventilation on at least 3 sides (domestic US) or 4 sides (international)

Forms required

Health certificate is not required for pets traveling domestically within the United States, although it is a good idea to have your pet’s health checked prior to travel.

Route restrictions

Dogs and cats are accepted on all domestic flights within the United States. The only international flights where pet dogs and cats are accepted are flights to Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Pet owners will need to visit the ticket counter to have their pet’s carrier inspected.

Cost

The cost per pet carrier is $99 USD per direction.

Service dog pet policies

Service dogs or fully trained psychiatric service dogs as trained service dogs are permitted to travel in the cabin with their disabled passenger without charge. If the passenger’s disability is not physically evident, further questioning as to the tasks that the service dog provides may occur.

Passengers should provide notice to the airline at least 48 hours in advance. One or two Department of Transportation forms must be completed and submitted to Frontier Airlines.

Two service dogs are allowed per passenger. Service dogs are expected to behave non-aggressively toward cabin attendants and other passengers. They must be able to sit at their passenger’s feet and not interfere with cabin operations or other passengers. If your service dog is large, check with Frontier Airlines about purchasing an extra seat to accommodate your dog’s size.

Emotional support and comfort animals are not accepted as service animals.

Service will require a health certificate when traveling internationally according to Frontier pet policies.

Frontier Airlines does not offer checked baggage services for live animals.

Frontier Airlines does not offer air cargo service for live animals.

The following animals and birds are prohibited to fly on Frontier Airlines: large birds (e.g. parrots, macaws, cockatoos, birds of prey), rodents (including mice, rats, squirrels), beavers, ferrets, reptiles (including snakes), amphibians, spiders, and insects, and lions, tigers, or bears.

      Hola Jeannette – Probablemente te refieres a un certificado sanitario. También hay muchas aerolíneas que exigen que completes un cuestionario si viajas con una mascota.
