  • US to UK dog relocation

Need to relocate my 9yr old 108lb lab from US to UK. My husband is a UK citizen and will be meeting his dog on the Heathrow side. Anyone use a relocation service and is it better to use one based in the US or one based in the UK?

Your Lab will need to fly as air cargo into the UK. Most cargo companies will include the fees of an agent in the cost of transport due to handling procedures once on the ground. Your Lab will be collected by a licensed agent and take to the Animal Reception Center which is where your husband will claim it. Some airlines will require that you use their agent and some will let you get your own. As for having an agent on the US side, because you or your representative is not traveling with your Lab, it will need to fly under commercial regulations. This will require a health certificate issued by a USDA accredited veterinarian within 48 hours of travel and the certificate must be endorsed by the USDA office in your State. You can take care of this or hire an agent to do it for you. Also, some airlines like British Airways will require that an agent book the transport. United does not, but some do.
