  • travelling with a pet without rabies vaccine due to allergy

I am getting prepared to travel by car with my two dogs, one of which is unable to have the rabies vaccine. She is 14 & has had two reactions with her last two vaccinations. I will have a letter from my Vet stating this. I know the laws differ state to state. I think the national law states that the vaccine label & instructions should be followed. I am sure all vaccine manufacturers state that their vaccine should not be given to a dog with health issues or allergies to its products. Anyone else have this issue when travelling?

Marilyn - if you are traveling within the states in the US, you will not be asked to produce documentation unless you encounter law enforcement and only in several states. We travel with our dogs between states all the time and have never been questioned. Michigan has publicized that they are being proactive about rabies requirements, but we have not heard of other states that are enforcing their regulations for non-resident pets.
