In-Cabin Pet Policy

If your dog or cat meets the requirements listed in Horizon Air pet policy to travel in-cabin, you will need an approved airline pet carrier. The carrier must have a waterproof bottom, have room for your pet to stand up and turn around, must fasten securly and have adequate ventilation.

Pets Allowed:

Small dogs, cats and household birds. Pets must be clean and well behaved.

Age Requirements:

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and fully weaned to travel in the cabin.

Restrictions

Horizon Air is now carrying small dogs and cats in the cabin into Mexico and Hawaii. Birds will not be transported into Hawaii.

Reservations

You must notify Horizon Air that you are traveling with a pet within 24 hours of flight time. Reservations cannot be made online. Text them at 82008. First class allows only one pet in the cabin. Up to 5 pets can travel in the main cabin. Up to 2 pets are allowed per passenger and the second pet must travel under the adjacent seat purchased by the passenger.

Carrier Requirements

Maximum size: 17in x 11in x 9.5in. (soft-sided carriers) or 17in x 11in x 7.5in (hard-sided carriers).

Up to 2 pets are permitted per carrier provided there is adequate room in the carrier. Two pet carriers are allowed per passenger as long as that passenger purchases the seat adjacent to them.

Two pets of the same size and species (generally puppies, kittens or toy dogs) may be allowed in one pet carrier, provided there is adequate room in the carrier for them to stand up and turn around. The total weight of the pets and carrier must not exceed 20 pounds (9kg).

Check-In

You will check in at the passenger counter as animals are not checked in at curbside. Your pet airline carrier will count as a piece of carry-on luggage.

Forms Required

Horizon Air does not require a health certificate for pets flying in the cabin. A health certificate may be required by your destination State if you are originating in an international location.

Service Dogs

Horizon Air will accept service dogs on their flights according to their regulations. Passengers flying with a service animal should advise the customer service agent upon arrival at the airport that they are traveling with a service dog.

Only one emotional support animal will be permitted pet passenger. Dogs and cats are the only animals that will be accepted as an emotional support animal and they must be leashed or travel in an airline-compliant pet carrier.

No emotional support animals will be transported after February 28, 2021. Bookings must be made prior to January 11, 2021.

Checked Baggage Pet Policy

If your pet is too large to fit under the seat, it is an animal other than a dog or cat, or if it is a very long flight, Horizon Air may transport your pet in the cargo section of the aircraft according to its regulations. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin.

Pets Allowed:

Most small domesticated pets such as cats, dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, household birds, non-poisonous reptiles, pot-bellied pigs, rabbits, and tropical fish are accepted. Other pets may be accepted with approval. Dogs and cats must be at least 8 weeks of age and weaned.

The combined weight of pet and carrier cannot exceed 150 pounds (68kg) to fly as checked baggage. The limit on SkyWest flights is 100 pounds (45kg).

Aircraft Restrictions

Pets traveling in the cargo hold are not permitted on any flight served by Airbus aircraft. Customers traveling on Horizon Air flights 2000-2999 or flights 3300-3499 may not check pets in the baggage or cargo compartments during the following dates: November 21 - December 3, 2019 or December 15, 2020 through January 10, 2021 due to holiday travel.

Forms Required

Health Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel is required. If you are returning to your country of origin on the same ticket, the health certificate is valid for 30 days.

Vaccinations required

A current rabies vaccination certificate is required for transport between the Lower 48 states to or from Alaska, as well as within the State of Alaska. Several cities in Alaska (Nome and Kotzebue) will require that dogs be vaccinated against Parvovirus.

Check-In

When flying as checked baggage, you will check in your dog, cat between 1 and 2 hours ahead of flight time at the passenger ticket counter at which time you will pay the fee for transport. Pet owners are encouraged to contact Air Alaska and make a reservation for their pet well ahead of travel.

Pets must be watered and fed within 4 hours of check-in. Adequate food and water for the duration of the flight should be provided.

You layover should not be more than 4 hours if your trip includes a transfer to another flight operated by Horizon Air, Horizon Air, SkyWest Flight Series 3300-3499, PenAir, or Ravn Alaska. Live animals are not permitted to fly in the cargo hold on flights operated by PenAir outside Alaska.

Pets will not be accepted when actual or forecasted temperatures are above 85°F (29.4°C) or below 45°F (7.2°C) at any city on the itinerary. Pets may be accepted at temperatures below 45°F with an acclimation certificate.

Crate Requirements

Only 1 dog or cat over the age of 6 months is permitted to fly in each crate. No more than 2 puppies or kittens, aged 8 weeks to 6 months, that are of comparable size, and weighing 20 pounds or less each, may be transported in the same crate. Animals must be of the same sex and known to eachother and the crate must be large enough to accommodate both of them.

Maximum size crate: 53" long x 48" wide x 34" high.

Minimum size crate: 21" long x 16" wide x 15" high.

Manifest (Air) Cargo Pet Policies

Horizon Air, through its PetConnect Program, serves the continental United States, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica.

Pets Allowed

Restrictions

No live animals will be permitted on flights to or from Mexico. There are restrictions on the number of animals on flights to Hawaii between November 1 and March 31.

Horizon Air does participate in holiday embargoes during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Reservations

Pet Connect reservations for live animals are required and will be accepted a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum 35 days before inline travel, and 3-7 days before flights that connect to another airline or for international travel.

Age

Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and weaned for domestic or international travel.

Forms Required

Health Certificate issued within 10 days of travel. Also required are proof of vaccinations and pet passport documents for the country your pet is traveling to (international travel only).

Check-In

You will check your pet in at Horizon Air' cargo facility in your airport no more than 4 hours prior to departure. You will pay for pet's transport when your pet is dropped off.

Crate Requirements

Two animals less than 6 months and 20 pounds (9kg) each may travel in the same crate as long as they are of the same species and both animals are less than 20 pounds (9 kg).

The maximum dimensions for crates flying on Horizon Air flights are 53 L x 48 W x 34 H in. The maximum dimensions for crates on Horizon Air are 40 L x 27 W x 30 H in.

Horizon Air will not accept brachycephalic or snub-nosed dogs and cats as checked luggage or as air cargo. The following list of brachycephalic dog breeds and any mix thereof will not be accepted: Boston Terrier, Boxer (all breeds), Bull Dog (all breeds), Bull Terrier, Brussels Griffon, Chow Chow, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Spaniel/Japanese Chin, Mastiff (all breeds), Pekingese, Pit Bull (all breeds), Pug (all breeds), Shih Tzu, Staffordshire Terrier.

Additionally, the following cats will not be accepted: Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, Persian.

All warm blooded mammals and birds including show or exhibition animals. Alaska Cargo will not ship dangerous, poisonous or offensive animals, unhealthy animals or pets that will be banned by the country of destination.
