Aeroflot Airline Pet Policy

Aeroflot In-Cabin Pet Policy

If your dog or cat meets the requirements listed in Aeroflot Airlines pet policy to travel in-cabin, you will need an approved airline pet carrier. The carrier must have a waterproof bottom as well as an absorbent pet pad, have room for your pet to stand up and turn around, must fasten securly and have adequate ventilation.

The weight of your pet should not exceed 8 kg/18lbs (including pet and carrier).

The size of the carrier must not exceed 115 cm when length, width and height are added together. Length must not exceed 55 cm, width must not exceed 40 cm, height must not exceed 20 cm.

Limit of one carrier per adult passenger. Two or more small puppies or kittens can be carried in one carrier if they are under 6 months of age and their total weight does not exceed 8kg.

You must notify Aeroflot that you are traveling with a pet. Reservations cannot be made online.

Pets Allowed:

Small dogs, cats or small birds. Brachycephalic breeds are not permitted to fly in the cabin (see Banned Breeds below).

Service and guide dogs are permitted to travel in the cabin without charge. They must be collared, muzzled and leashed at all times. They must be tied to owner's foot. They may accompany minors aged above 12 years. Notice must be provided more than 72 hours before departure.

Emotional support dogs (ESD) must be contained in an airline-compliant pet carrier and the weight of the animal including the carrier must be less than 8kg else it will be flown in the cargo hold. It will be flown without charge on flights to and from the United States with documentation proving that the passenger is in the care of a psychiatrist or psychotheripist licensed in the United States. A letter must be presented written on the letterhead of the physician indicating the need for the ESD. The letter must be dated within one year of departure date. Prior notification to Aeroflot a minimum of 48 hours prior to departure is necessary for all emotional support dogs.

Microchip and Vaccination Requirements:

All pets must first be microchipped, then vaccinated for rabies no sooner than 21 days prior to travel. Pets should not be vaccinated for rabies prior to 3 months of age. Unvaccinated pets can travel with Aeroflot as long as they are dependent on and traveling with their mother.

Forms Requirements:

Aeroflot will need to see all documentation required for your destination country. Also required will be a veterinary health certificate (when exporting to non Customs Union countries) and a Customs Union Certificate (when exporting to Customs Union countries) issued by the Animal Disease Control Station within 5 days of travel. An international health certificate will be issued which is good for 24 hours for pets leaving the Russian Federation.

Check-In:

You will check your pet in at the passenger counter. A fee will be collected at the time of check in. Your pet airline carrier will count as a piece of carry-on luggage but will be charged as excess baggage.

Checked Baggage Pet Policy

If your pet is too large to fit under the seat, it is an animal other than a dog or cat, or if it is a very long flight, Aeroflot may transport your pet in the cargo section of the aircraft according to its regulations. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin.

Pets Allowed:

Larger dogs and cats as well as other warm blooded domesticated animals. Aeroflot will not permit the transport of rodents, reptiles, anthripods, fish, sick animals and non-domesticated animals. Weight of your pet and its carrier must not exceed 50kg.

Temperature Restrictions:

Pets will not be accepted when actual or forecasted temperatures are above 85°F (29.4°C) or below 45°F (7.2°C) at any city on the itinerary. Pets may be accepted at temperatures below 45°F with an acclimation certificate. (Check with Aeroflot before using an acclimation certificate.)

Crate Requirements:

One animal is permitted per crate.

Crates must be IATA-compliant (Click here for crate requirements) and have handles. All wheels must be removed. Weight of crate including your pet must not be over 50Kg.

Metal hardware should be used to fasten the top and bottom halves of your pet' crate together.

Manifest (Air) Cargo Pet Policies

Pets Allowed:

Aeroflot Airlines will ship warm blooded animals such as dogs, cats, birds, other domestic animals. Aeroflot will not permit the transport of rodents, reptiles, anthripods, fish, sick animals and non-domesticated animals.

If your pet is traveling as air cargo, a licensed pet transporter should be used.

All kittens and puppies flying with Aeroflot must be microchipped and vaccinated for rabies no sooner than 3 months of age and wait for 21 days before traveling unless their destination country requires a longer wait.

Banned Breeds

Brachycephalic dog breeds (with a flat and wide skull shape and a flattened snout), such as Bulldogs (American, French, American), Pugs, Pekinese, Shih Tzus, Boxers, Griffins (Belgian, Brussels), Boston Terriers, Bordeaux Mastiffs, and Japanese Chin dogs will not be permitted for transport on Aeroflot either in the cabin or in the cargo hold.

Aeroflot will only transport domesticated animals. Pet owners of animals other than dogs, cats and birds should contact the airline to determine if and how the airline will transport their pets.
