Democratic Republic of the Congo Pet Passport & Import Regulations

There will be no quarantine imposed on your pet when entering the Democratic Republic of the Congo as long as the following requirements are met. Unless otherwise stated, the regulations below apply to domestic, emotional support and service dogs and cats only.

1.

Your dog or cat should be microchipped with a 15 digit pet microchip conforming to ISO 11784/11785 standards before entering the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Vaccinations

Your pet must have proof of current vaccination against rabies at least 30 days but not more than 12 months prior to entering the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

4.

Import Permit

Your dog or cat will need an import permit to enter the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Pet owners should apply for the permit well in advance of travel.

5.

Pet Health Certificate

A licensed veterinarian in the origination country will complete a pet health certificate for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This certificate must then be endorsed by the government agency in the origination country that is responsible for the import and export of live animals.

Entering the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Air

Live animals entering the Democratic Republic of the Congo should do so at N'djili Airport.

All domestic dogs and cats must be free of evidence of disease communicable to humans when examined at the port of entry to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. If your pet is not in apparent good health, further examination by a licensed veterinarian may be required at your expense.

Other Animals

Rabbits and birds, invertebrates, tropical fish, reptiles, amphibia, mammals such as rodents are not subject to requirements of rabies vaccination, but may have to meet other requirements and should have a health certificate to enter the Democratic Republic of the Congo Pet owners are strongly advised to seek further information from the relevant authority of their country and/or that of the country of destination.

CITES

If your pet is not a dog, cat or ferret, and especially if it is a turtle or parrot, you should verify that it is not protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).  You will need to apply for additional permits if this is the case. Over 180 countries participate and enforce CITES regulations.
