All airlines and shipping
agencies require a valid certificate issued by a competent Veterinary
Authority in the country of origin for all domestic pets; birds and
animals, going to Bahrain . The certificate should state that the
bird or animal is healthy and free from any infection or contagious
disease.
All pet dogs and cats entering Bahrain from the United States, Canada and other
countries with a low incidence of rabies may be quarantined for a minium of
30 days if they fail to pass the saliva test that is performed upon entry.
Puppies and Kittens have different rules allowing them to enter as soon as
4 weeks after their second innoculations.
However, the quarantine can be avoided if you have a blood titre test done at least 6 months
in advance of your travel date.
Bahrain requires that you obtain an import permit before bringing your pet to Bahrain.
Dogs must be vaccinated agains rabies, canine distemper, parvo, hepatitis and Leptospira.
Cats must receive the rabies vaccine and the tri-cat vaccines.
The most recent of a minimum of two vaccinations for rabies must have taken place at least one month but not more
than six months prior to travel. This rule would be different if you are having the blood titer
test done in order to avoid quarantine.
The Bahraini Health Authority has the right to refuse admission of
birds and animals that are not accompanied by the required certificates
or order their extermination if already entered in Bahrain . Under
certain conditions, the owner may be asked to take his or her pet back
to the country of departure.
The import permit is valid for one month from date of issue,
and the vaccination certificate is valid for six months.
We recommend that you utilize the services of a Bahrain based agent to handle the arrangements for the
arrival of your pet animal.
