Traveling to Hawaii - Airline decision not to allow pets in the cabin

Remember when Aloha Air used to allow pets in the cabin when flying to Hawaii? They went out of business and the other carriers that service the big island don't allow pets in the cabin. Anytime anyone hears of an airline serving Hawaii changing their policy, let us know. There are many people who fly there who would like not to have to put their pets in cargo.

Hi, I have been in search of an airline that will allow me to take my pets to Kona, Hawaii in the cabin. So far, I have only found private jet charters that will accomodate this for a hefty price. However, I have five cats and one dog to relocate and having the piece of mind of knowing that they are sitting next to me in the cabin and not terrified in the belly of the plane makes it seem a worth while investment to make. They are my family, after all. I am looking for anyone who may have future plans to move their pets to Hawaii and might be interested in sharing the cost of a private jet. The more people we get together, the cheaper it will be. I am just beginning the process of qualifying for the direct airport release quarantine program, so I will not be planning to travel until the end of the year...or possibly the beginning of 2011. If anyone is interested or has any other knowledge, ideas or suggestions, please let me know!
    Thanks very much!

    lsp,

First of all, I must say that you are very lucky to be able to live on the Big Island. My wife and I had our honeymoon there and we've always dreamt of living there.

I am currently looking for a job anywhere in Hawaii. Once I find one, we'll begin our preparations to move. We hope to avoid flying our Corgi in the baggage hold. However, as you have noted, air charters from the mainland are very expensive. If possible, we'll try to share a ride, as you have suggested. Unfortunately, any job I find in my profession is likely to be on Oahu, so we probably won't be able to share your jet. I wish you luck though.

    Cheers,
    -Brian*

    Aloha Brian,

Thanks for the post. I appreciate the info on the dog travel company. Indeed, living in Hawaii is paradise and I wish you the very best in your job search. Aside from the hustle and bustle of Oahu, it is still a beautiful island.

Who knows how, if and when this will all pan out, but if something breaks for you then send me a quick reply just in case it works out that we can help each other in our pet relocation endeavor. Oahu is a short 25 minutes away and I'm sure it wouldn't be too much to have the flight jump over to the Big Island.

Otherwise, best wishes for a great future for you, your wife, and your corgi in the beautiful state of Hawaii!!

    brian:
if you can get your corgi on the air charter to the big island, then you can take your corgi in cabin on hawaiian from the big island to oahu...he won't have to go into cargo interislands...it's only from the mainland to hawaii (seems stupid to me) but you can take your dog in cabin from Hawaii to the mainland but not back ....go figure

That is interesting. Are you traveling by private boat or commercial ship?

AS OF AUGUST 2011 ALASKA AIRLINES now accepts cats/dogs in the cabin to/from Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!! FIRST AIRLINE TO ACCEPT ANY PET that is not a service dog in the cabin from the mainland to HAWAII. THANK YOU SO MUCH ALASKA AIRLINES!! and, at 100$....it is CHEAPER than any other airline cargo/checked bag fee. My flight is booked with my Cat Mo (who meets all agricultural req) for nov in the cabin over the pacific from the mainland to HAWAII. 100$. Call them, they are SO AWESOMELY nice. THANKS SO MUCH ALASKA AIRLINES for finally making an affordable way for my baby to come with me in comfort.
