East from Des Moines on the way to Davenport you will travel through Iowa wine country. A dozen wineries offer tasting rooms for both wine and homemade cider.

Be sure to look for one of Iowa's historic hotels to house you and your pet for the night. Some of these were built back in the late 1800's and have been restored as historic landmarks. You may even run into a celebrity or two while having a cocktail in the hotel bar.
