HELPFUL TIPS - TRAVELING BY AIR WITH YOUR PET
HEALTH CERTIFICATE
Iberia Airlines requires a certificate of good health indicating that the pet is healthy enough for travel, is free of diseases communicable to humans and has been properly vaccinated. The forms and instructions for Iberia Airlines are available here: http://www.pettravelstore.com/store-pet-airline-forms1.html.

SMALL PETS - IN CABIN TRAVEL
Small cats and dogs and sometimes small birds are allowed to travel in the cabin of the aircraft on Iberia Airlines flights. The pet must be small enough to fit in an approved under the seat carrier. Each airline has different rules regarding pets in the cabin. To see the approved in cabin pet carriers visit this page: http://www.pettravelstore.com/store-pet-airline-carriers1.html.

LARGER PETS - IN CHECKED BAGGAGE OR CARGO If your pet is too large to fit under the seat or if it is a very long flight the airline may transport your pet in the cargo section of the aircraft. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin. TIP: Be sure to tell the aircraft's cabin that you have a pet in cargo so that he can be sure to keep the temperature at the proper level.

If your pet is traveling in the cargo section, whether through the cargo department or as checked baggage, it must be in a pet crate that is APHIS/IATA compliant.

To learn more about IATA compliant pet crates visit this page: http://www.pettravel.com/passports_container_requirements.cfm.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
If you are traveling to another country, the airline will want to see that you have the proper documents to enter that country with your pet. Most countries have their own version of a veterinary certificate sometimes called a Zoo Sanitary Certificate. In addition some countries require an import permit. These forms and instructions are available here: http://www.pettravelstore.com/store-pet-immigration-forms1.html.

HOT AND COLD WEATHER RESTRICTIONS
When runway temperatures are above 84 degrees at the departure airport, the airline may refuse to board the pet in the cargo (checked baggage) section of the aircraft. When the weather is very cold with a runway temperature below 45 degrees at the time of departure the airline may require what is called an acclimation certificate that is available here: http://pettravelstore.com/store-pet-immigration-forms1.html.

To learn more about the hot and cold weather restrictions visit this page: http://www.pettravel.com/passports_temperature_restrictions.cfm.

MORE TIPS FOR PET AIR TRAVEL
1. Never give your pet a medical (prescription) sedative. If you want your pet to be more relaxed, then give it a natural relaxing agent such as HAPPY TRAVELER
2. Always purchase your pet carrier well in advance of your trip so that the pet can get used to it.
3. Be sure to tell the airline you will be flying with a pet as they impose restrictions on the number of pets on a specific flight.
4. Even though air travel can be stressful for your pet both you and your pet, you will be happier if the pet gets to go with you on your trip.
