Pet Travel Airline Rules: El Al Airlines

GENERAL
Live animal (pets) up to 8 Kgs of weight (including container) will be accepted for carriage in the cabin with accompanying passenger.
Live animals (pets) over 8 Kgs of weight (including container) will be accepted for carriage in the hold of the aircraft only.
Reservations office has to be advised of the above well in advance.
All pets accepted for carriage (in cabin or in hold) must be provided with a health/vaccination Certificate and Entry Permits required by the relevant authorities at transit and/or destination stations.

RESERVATION PROCEDURE
All requests to carry pets accompanied by passengers must be submitted to El Al Reservations office indicating the pet's weight including its container and the container's dimensions.
Central Reservations will confirm the acceptance to the relevant Reservations office.
Carriage of pets in cabin is not allowed in -
B747-400 - First Class and Upper Deck
B747-200 - Upper Deck
B777 - First Class and Business Class

CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE TO THE CABIN
For the purpose of carriage in the cabin, a container is defined as a soft closed carry bag, a closed basket or a rigid (plastic) kennel that fit the dimensions mentioned below.
The container shall not exceed the dimensions of 40X40X21 cm and shall fit to be stowed under the passenger’s seat in front of him during takeoff and landing.
The container will be lined with soft material to absorb moisture and be constructed in such a way so as to prevent leakage
No more than two live puppies or kittens, may be carried in the same container provided the total weight does not exceed 8 Kgs.
Animals showing obvious signs of sickness or disease shall be refused for transportation.
The animal must not have an offensive odor.
Pets (domestic animals) will not be accepted as pet accompanied by passenger for London, Johannesburg and Hong Kong.
These animals will have to be imported in “nose and paw proof crates” as freight and dispatched on an airway-bill.
Bird and bird’s eggs (apart from poultry and poultry eggs) will not be accepted for London, except under a license granted by U.K Agricultural Department.
“SEEING-EYE/HEARING GUIDE DOGS” accompanying blind/deaf passengers are to be carried free of charge, without container, provided the dog is harnessed.
The dog may not occupy a seat.
For acceptance to U.K the dog can not be permitted in cabin under any circumstances. Dog must be manifested with AWB (Airway Bill) as per normal import procedure.
For acceptance to Johannesburg, such dogs will be cleared in the costums' area of passenger arrival hall.

CALCULATION OF CHARGE
The charge for the carriage of pets accompanied by passenger (normal excess baggage rate) will be regardless of the passenger’s regular baggage weight.
The calculation will be based on the weight of the animal plus container plus the weight of the food for the animal, if any,

DOCUMENTATION
Dogs, cats and birds up to two each, accompanied by their owners, after being in their possession abroad for at least 90 days, are exempt for Israel Veterinary Import Permit, but they must bear Veterinary Health Certificate, issued by a Government Veterinary Officer in the country of origin, stating that the animals are healthy and free of infection and contagious disease. In addition, the Certificate will state that the dogs and cats were vaccinated against rabies, not more than a year and not less than a month prior to coming to Israel ; dogs and cats under the vaccination age (3 months) will not be admitted.
Dogs, cats and birds, more than two of each, and other animals, arriving with/without their owners, require a Veterinary Import permit issued by the

A written application for such permits, is to be submitted with a payable cheque (fees are subject to changes), not less than 10 days before the planned data of departure of the animals.
