Cape Air Pet Policy

Cape Air Airlines Pet Policy

DBA: Key West Express, Nantucket Airlines

We gladly accept pets on our flights, however, we can only take one pet per plane (unless in the same family). For this reason, it's important that you make a reservation for your pet. There's a $10 fee per pet, each way.

If you are traveling in or out of the following airports a kennel is required: Boston, Providence, Fort Myers, San Juan, Saint Croix, Saint Thomas, and Tortola. Cats always need to be in kennels. Upon arrival, health certificates may be required by local authorities, depending upon the route over which the pet is traveling.

The largest assembled pet kennel that will fit on our airplane measures 27x20x19. Connections with other carriers are not available.

Pets must be accompanied by a traveling passenger.

If you have any questions about traveling with a pet, please call a Customer Service Representative at 1-800-352-0714.

HELPFUL TIPS - TRAVELING BY AIR WITH YOUR PET
HEALTH CERTIFICATE
Cape Air requires a certificate of good health indicating that the pet is healthy enough for travel, is free of diseases communicable to humans and has been properly vaccinated. The forms and instructions for Cape Air are available here: http://www.pettravelstore.com/store-pet-airline-forms1.html.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
If you are traveling to another country the airline will want to see that you have the proper documents to enter that country with your pet. Most countries have their own version of a veterinary certificate sometimes called a Zoo Sanitary Certificate. In addition some countries require an import permit. These forms are available here: http://www.pettravelstore.com/store-pet-immigration-forms1.html.

HOT AND COLD WEATHER RESTRICTIONS
When runway temperatures are above 84 degrees at the departure airport the airline may refuse to board the pet in the cargo (checked baggage) section of the aircraft. When the weather is very cold with a runway temperature below 45 degrees at the time of departure the airline may require what is called an acclimation certificate that is available here: http://www.classypets.com/Merchant5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CPTS&Product_Code=FORM000&Category_Code=PTSFORM.

To learn more about the hot and cold weather restrictions visit this page: http://www.pettravel.com/passports_temperature_restrictions.cfm.

SMALL PETS - IN CABIN TRAVEL
Cathy Pacific DOES NOT allow pet in the cabin of the aircraft with the exception of medically certified service animals. Each airline has different rules regarding pets in the cabin. To see the approved in cabin pet carriers visit this page: http://www.pettravelstore.com/store-pet-airline-carriers1.html.

LARGER PETS - IN CHECKED BAGGAGE OR CARGO If your pet is too large to fit under the seat or if it is a very long flight the airline may transport your pet in the cargo section of the aircraft. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin. TIP: Be sure to tell the aircraft's cabin that you have a pet in cargo so that he can be sure to keep the temperature at the proper level.

If your pet is traveling in the cargo section, sometimes referred to as check baggage it must be in a pet crate that is APHIS/IATA compliant. You can view these pet crates by visiting: http://www.classypets.com/Merchant5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CPTS&Product_Code=CRT001&Category_Code=PTSCRT.

To learn more about IATA compliant pet crates visit this page: http://www.pettravel.com/passports_container_requirements.cfm.

MORE TIPS FOR PET AIR TRAVEL
1. Never give your pet a medical (prescription) sedative. If you want your pet to be more relaxed, then give it a natural relaxing agent such as HAPPY TRAVELER
2. Always purchase your pet carrier well in advance of your trip so that the pet can get used to it.
3. Be sure to tell the airline you will be flying with a pet as they impose restrictions on the number of pets on a specific flight.
4. Even though air travel can be stressful for your pet both you and your pet, you will be happier if the pet gets to go with you on your trip.

QUESTIONS If you have questions about traveling with your pet send your question to info@PetTravel.com or post them to our blog.

During periods of very cold weather the airline may require an ACCLIMATION CERTIFICATE. You can order this form online in our store.
