In-Cabin Pet Policy
If your dog or cat meets the requirements listed in Air India pet policy to travel in-cabin, you will need an approved airline pet carrier. The carrier must have a waterproof bottom, have room for your pet to stand up and turn around, must fasten securly and have adequate ventilation.
Small dogs, cats and household birds
Pets are not allowed on the Air India flights to and from the United States except for service dogs which must be carried in the cabin. Also, no pets are allowed on flights to London. No birds are permitted as carry on or checked baggage on flights transiting through the Middle East.
You must notify Air India that you are traveling with a pet. Reservations cannot be made online.
Maximum soft sided carrier size: 18"x18"x12" (45cm x 45cm x 30cm) Passengers will be subject to normal excess baggage charges. Combined weight of pet and carrier must be less than 11 lbs. (5kg)
Health certificate and proof of rabies vaccination as well as all certificates and forms required for destination country.
Checked Baggage Pet Policy
If your pet is too large to fit under the seat, it is an animal other than a dog or cat, or if it is a very long flight, Air India may transport your pet in the cargo section of the aircraft according to its regulations. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin.
Dogs, cats, small household birds and other pets
Air India urges caution when transporting snub-nosed breeds. It is recommended that these pets are transported in crates one size larger than they normally require.
Pets will be exposed to summer and winter temperatures between the holding area and boarding. Check with the airline for temperature restrictions
Health Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian no more than 10 days prior to travel and proof of rabies vaccination. All forms required for your destination country should be attached to the crate.
Hard plastic crates that clip together with plastic clips do not offer the highest amount of security for your pet. Metal hardware should be used to fasten the top and bottom halves of the crate together. Click here for crate requirements.
