Airline Pet Policy Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways dog

Can my pet fly with me in the cabin? No
Can my pet fly with me as checked baggage? Yes
Can my pet fly without me as manifest cargo? Yes

Qatar Airways will not allow your dog, cat or other animal to travel in the cabin of the aircraft with the exception of medically certified service animals and falcons. There is a limit of one pet per passenger in the cabin.

If your pet is too large to fit under the seat, it is an animal other than a dog or cat, or if it is a very long flight, Qatar Airways may transport your pet in the cargo section of the aircraft according to its regulations. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin. TIP: Be sure to tell the Captain of the aircraft that your pet is flying in the cargo hold so that they can be sure to keep the temperature at the proper level. Find more tips on airline pet travel in cargo.

There is no limit as to the number of pets that can travel as checked baggage per passenger as long as limitations in the cargo hold will allow. Rodents such as mice, rats, marmots, and rabbits are not allowed as excess baggage; they must travel as manifest cargo.

Reservations should be made between 3 and 7 days ahead of departure time. Veterinary cetificates are required. All documentation from your destination country must be presented at the time of check-in.

The following animals can be transported as manifest cargo: livestock, tropical fish, small mammals, and birds.

If your pet is traveling in the cargo section, whether through the cargo department or as checked baggage, it must be in a pet crate that is IATA compliant. Learn more about IATA compliant pet crates.  We also suggest that you consider crate hardware for your pet's crate as more airlines are requiring it. Once you receive your crate, you will need to acclimate your dog or cat to it before traveling. Our guide for preparing your pet and its crate for travel is helpful, especially for first time pet travelers. Download Preparing Your Pet and Its Crate for Travel.

Qatar Airways Pet Policy

Breed Restrictions: Qatar Airways will not transport the following breeds of dogs and cats: Burmese, Exotic, Himalayan, Persian, (mainly pure breeds of snub nosed dogs) American Saffordshire Terrier, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffin, Bull Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Chinese Pug, Chow Chow, English Bulldog, King Charles Spaniel, French Bulldog, Lhasa Aspro, Japanese Chin, Pekingese, Pug, Shar-Pei, Shih Tzu, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Tibetan Spaniel, American Bull dog, Pitt Bull Terrier, Bulldog, and Japanese Boxer. (Please note that the list is subject to changes.)

Temperature Restrictions: During the months of May through October, it is suggested that your pet be transported as manifest cargo as opposed to checked baggage.

Many airlines require a health certificate indicating that the pet is healthy enough for travel, is free of diseases communicable to humans and has been properly vaccinated, especially when traveling in the cargo section of the aircraft. A Health Certificate completed by your veterinarian within 10 days of travel is required by Qatar Airways when your pet is traveling as manifest cargo.

If you are traveling to another country, Qatar Airways will want to see that you have the proper documents to enter that country with your pet. Most countries have their own version of a Veterinary Certificate. In addition, some countries require an Import Permit. Find pet passport forms and instructions in the Pet Travel Store.

When runway temperatures are above 84F (29C) degrees at the departure airport, Qatar Airways may refuse to board your pet as cargo or checked baggage. When the weather is very cold with a runway temperature below 45F (7C) degrees at the time of departure, Qatar Airways may require what is called an Acclimation Certificate. Hi, how many dog are allowed to travel from doha to philippines ?
Posted on 2014-02-01 11:04:10.0
Mafe - this will depend on your airline's pet policy and how they are traveling. There is usually a limit as to the number of pets that can travel with you as checked baggage. For manifest cargo, it usually depends on the configuration of the aircraft and the other cargo they carry. The Philippines does not publish limits as to the number of animals that can enter at one time, but you will need an Import Permit which may divulge this information.

Hi, For the pet policy. I have completed Health Certificate, Export Stamp , BKK Quarantine import stamp and the other documents .. Do my cat still needs a pet passport ? What is it? My trip is YUL- DOH-BKK. Looking forward to hearing from you asap. Thank you very much.

Hello Glua, If you have all the documents necessary for import then a pet passport is not needed.
Posted on 2014-09-18 19:28:18.0
Hello Maria, You will want to confirm with Qatar Airways or the airline you are flying with to make sure they accept pets on your particular route. If you are changing airlines in Doha then you will need to meet their animal import requirements. As for Goa, India can be a bit tricky to enter. Besides a veterinary health certificate they require an import permit, also known as a No Objection Certificate. It is recommended you hire an pet import agent in India to help procure this form for you. You can find pet transporters based in India by searching here:

Hello, I am traveling from Bangkok to Seattle via Qatar airways. We are moving back with our 8 kg Pomeranian miniature poodle . Our flight with Qatar is 35 hours total. Bangkok to Doha, Doha to Jfk New York, New York to Seattle. I have rabies vaccination done. I have a quote from a pet transport agent for $1,250 (usd) to transport him. I understand I can take him myself with the airline as checked baggage (which is much cheaper, approx $200) I am worried about his well being on such a long flight. Should I take him myself or pay the agent? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi,we want to travel 4 dogs to Philippines, how much does it cost for them per kilo?
Posted on 2014-11-22 11:32:05.0
Maria - the cost would depend on the size of the animals and the route they are traveling. You need to contact the cargo department of an airline that flies the entire route if they are traveling alone. If you are traveling with them, contact reservations.
Posted on 2014-11-29 15:15:49.0
Aaron - this is a hard question to answer. Generally, agents book passage for unaccompanied animals traveling as manifest cargo. When pets travel this way, the airlines assume more responsibility for their care during layovers and they are tracked. However, pets traveling as accompanied checked baggage have a better chance of traveling with their owners because the airlines will make every attempt to keep them together. So there are plusses and minuses for each type of travel. You should inquire as to which way the agent has estimated your pet's passage. If it is accompanied checked baggage, you can do that yourself. Your layovers should be no more than 2 hours in each layover city.

My vet in Doha has quoted me some astronomical fee for transporting my dog, Maltese as manifest cargo, in the region of 2800 QR, approx £500 and another 3300 Qr which is approx£600 for clearance and customs at Heathrow. Is that right?
Posted on 2014-12-22 14:40:55.0
Daniel - you need to contact Qatar Airways directly for the cost. It depends on the weight of your pet and the class of service used.
Posted on 2014-12-27 20:04:04.0
Anita - it is expensive to transport a pet to the UK. One reason for this is because, if it is entering the UK by air, it must do so as manifest cargo which is more expensive than accompanied checked baggage. The other reason is because a licensed agent must take your pet from the plane to the Animal Reception Center to be cleared. Then there are clearance and paperwork fees at ARC as well.

Hello, Im wondering about the temperature policy. I intend to fly my pet from Doha in mid-July, when the temperatures are slightly above 29C at night. I wouldnt like him to be refused onboard, obviously. Is there any guarantee that he will be able to fly (as checked baggage or manifest cargo)? What if I shave him?
Posted on 2015-01-01 20:18:05.0
Yo - the general rule is above 85 degrees F (29.5C) the airlines can refuse to fly pets in the cargo hold. If your pet is snub-nosed, then the temperature should not be above 75 degrees F. This is for the safety of your pet. Don't believe that shaving your pet will make a difference to the airline but you can ask.
