1.

In-Cabin Pet Policy

If your small dog or cat meets the requirements listed in Air Transat pet policy to travel in-cabin, you will need an approved airline pet carrier. The carrier must have a waterproof bottom, have room for your pet to stand up and turn around, must fasten securly and have adequate ventilation.

Pets Allowed:

Small, dogs and cats. Maximum weight of pet and carrier must not exceed 10 kg (22 pounds). One pet per adult passenger is permitted.

Age Requirements:

Pets must be 12 weeks of age to fly Air Transat.

Reservations

You should contact Air Transat directly to make a reservation for your pet at least 3 days prior to transport as there are a limited number of pets per flight.

Restrictions:

A pet carrier is not included in the carry-on baggage limitations. An additional charge will be levied as excess baggage.

Dogs and cats are only permitted to fly as air cargo on flights to and from St. Lucia, to the Republic of Ireland and to United Kingdom (except service and emotional support dogs). No pets will be allowed on flights to or from Jamaica.

Carrier Requirements:

Carriers should measure no more than 21.5H x 40W x 45D cm (8.5H x 16W x 17.5D in). Your carrier can be a bit higher if it is a soft-sided carrier and can compress down a few inches. Carriers must be secure, allow for your pet to stand up and turn around and must have a waterproof bottom. A pet pad must be provided.

Forms Required

All required forms for your destination country must be provided. A health certificate is recommended.

Cost

The cost per pet is CAD $75 for for domestic, South and U.S. flights and up to CAD $275 for international flights.

Service and Emotional Support Animals

Air Transat permits guide and emotional service dogs to accompany passengers with disabilities at no charge. Air Transat only accepts service or emotional support dogs.

Passengers are required to notify an Air Transat representative at least 7 days prior to scheduled departure.

Owners of guide and service dogs should be prepared to show a valid training certificate.

Service and emotional support dogs must have all documentation required for their destination country.

Checked Baggage Pet Policy

If your pet is too large to fly in the cabin, then Air Transat may fly it in the cargo hold as checked baggage as long as an adult passenger is flying with it. This section of the cargo department has the same temperature and pressure as the passenger cabin.

Pets Allowed

Dogs or cats weighing more than 22 lbs. (10 kg) up to a maximum weight of 45kg (99 lbs) are permitted to travel as checked baggage on Air Transat flights.

Age

Pets must be at least 12 weeks of age to travel as checked baggage.

Cost

The cost per pet is CAD $75 for for domestic, South and U.S. flights and up to CAD $275 for international flights.

Layovers

As long as you are flying in and out of your layover country on Air Transat and your layover is not more than 3 hours, then Air Transat will interline your pet (move it from one plane to the next plane). If your layover is more than 3 hours, then you will need to contact Air Transat to see whether you will need to claim your pet and clear customs in the layover country.

Reservations

You should contact Air Transat at least 3 days in advance of transporting your pet as checked baggage.

Check-In

Plan to arrive at the airport and check your pet in at the ticket counter no later than 90 minites before departure.

Temperature Restrictions

If at any point (origination/transit/destination) during your pet's route, the temperature is forecast to be less than 10 degrees F (-12°C) or greater than 85°F (29°C), your pet will be refused transport as checked baggage. There are no exceptions to these temperature restrictions.

Forms Required

Your pet must have a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel. Additionally, a current rabies certificate must also be available.

Crate Requirements

Maximum crate size depends on your route. Crates must be IATA compliant hard plastic crates with adequate ventilation and a spring lock on the door or built to IATA Live Animal Regulations CR 1. Metal hardware must be used to fasten the top and bottom halves of your pet's crate together, and cable ties must be provided for the crate doors (these are available in our accessory kits).

Manifest (Air) Cargo Pet Policies

If your pet is over 45kg (99 lbs) or it is flying unaccompanied, Air Transat will transport it as air cargo. This portion of the cargo hold is pressurized and temperature controlled.

Reservations

You need to contact Air Transat's Cargo Department to make a reservation for your pet.

Check-In and Pick Up

You will check in your pet at Air Transat's cargo facility which is located on airport grounds of the origination airport. At that time, an Air Waybill must be completed identifying the shipper (consignor), receiver (consignee) and the details of the flight and animal involved. Your pet will be claimed at Air Transat's cargo facility in the destination airport.

Forms Required

Your pet must have a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel and all documents required for the destination country.

Banned and Snub-Nosed Breeds

Air France Banned Breeds

Air Transat does not transport the following breeds of dogs or their mixes:

Mastiffs: All breeds including; Argentine (Dogo Argentino), Bandog (Bandogge/band dog), South African (Boerboel), Brazilian (Fila Brasileiro), Italian (Cane Corso and Neapolitan), Canary Mastiff (Presa Canario), Japanese Mastiff (Tosa Inu)

Pit Bulls: All breeds including; American Bully, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Akita (Akita Inu), Caucasian Ovcharka (Caucasian Shepherd Dog), Karabash Dog (Kangal/Anatolian Shepherd Dog), Rottweiler, Wolf Dog Hybrid and Doberman Pinscher.

The following breeds are accepted for transport: all other Mastiff breeds not listed above such as Bull Mastiffs and French Mastiffs (Dogue de Bordeaux).

Snub-nosed breeds

Brachycephalic (snub-nosed) dogs and cats will be accepted for transport; however, pet owners must sign a release of liability, the pet must be transported in a kennel one size larger than would normally be required and there must be ventilation openings on the four sides of the carrier.

The following is a list of dogs considered snub-nosed: Affenpinscher, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffon, Bulldog (all breeds), Chihuahua, Chow chow, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, Lhasa Apso, Pekingese, Pug (all breeds), Shar-Pei, Shih Tzu, Teddy Bear Dog (incl. Shichon or Zuchon), Tibetan Spaniel and Mastiffs (many breeds).

The following is a list of cats considered snub-nosed: British Short Hair, Burmese, Exotic Short Hair, Himalayan, Persian and Scottish Fold.
